Limited-Edition Rider Wristbands Now Available
All proceeds from Carmichael, Reed, Windham, LaRocco,
Vuillemin and Stewart-branded wristbands will go back into motocross
community
CORONA, Calif. (April 29, 2005) – Supercross fans
looking for another way to support their favorite riders
need to look no further. The Women’s Motocross-Supercross
Foundation (WMXF) has created limited-edition, rider-endorsed
wristbands that are available for just a $3 donation. The
wristbands are being sold right now at www.wmxf.org, and
will be available on-site at the Parts Unlimited MiniMoto
SX, held at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Friday, May
6.
Thanks to the generosity of Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed,
Kevin Windham, Mike LaRocco, David Vuillemin and James Stewart,
100 percent of the proceeds will go to the WMXF, a non-profit
organization whose primary objectives include supporting the
professional supercross/motocross racing community whenever
and however possible.
“This is a one-time opportunity,” said Sharon
Richards, co-president, WMXF. “These riders have all
been truly selfless to let us create these wristbands, and
when these limited editions are gone, they’re gone!”
One of the main catalysts to sell these wristbands is the
desire to raise funds to support long-time Kawasaki motocross
team member Rick Asch. Asch’s 14-year-old daughter,
Karla, was recently diagnosed with Brainstem Glioma, a cancerous
brainstem tumor, and the majority of the proceeds from the
wristband sales will go directly to Rick and his family. Throughout
lengthy medical treatments and extended hospital stays, it’s
young Karla’s strength and positive attitude that is
helping the entire family through this very difficult time.
“This hits home for so many of us,” continued
Richards. “Rick has put his heart and soul into the
motocross industry for more than 20 years, and as part of
his extended family, the motocross industry wants nothing
more than to be able to show our support to him and his family.
“Rick has worked with so many motocross greats –
people like Jeff Ward, Mike Kiedrowski, Mike LaRocco, Mark
Barnett, Jeff Emig, Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart…
the list goes on and on. It is truly amazing to see everyone
rally together and be so quick to offer their help and support.”
Anyone wishing to donate directly to the WMXF or to the Karla
Asch Fund can go to http://www.wmxf.org/website/giving.html.
All donations are tax-deductible.
The WMXF is comprised entirely of volunteer members connected
with the professional Supercross/Motocross industry. Since
its inception, the WMXF has divvied out nearly $20,000 to
support the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit, Motor Racing Outreach,
injured privateer racers, and others within the motocross
community. Check out more about the WMXF at www.WMXF.org.
WMXF Mission Statement
Our mission is four-fold. First, to support to any racer or
crewmember who suffers injury as a result of participation
in or preparation for a professional motocross/supercross
event. Second, the foundation provides support to those in
the motocross/supercross community who suffer serious misfortune
not directly related to competition. Third, WMXF provides
financial support to benevolent organizations that support
the sport of motocross/supercross. Finally, the foundation
serves as a group of women who contribute to the well-being
of families in the professional motocross/supercross community.
