| TEAM SAMSUNG RADIOSHACK AND THE WOMEN’S
MOTOCROSS AND SUPERCROSS FOUNDATION PARTNER TO AID LYNN NICKERSON
Funds Raised at Central Yamaha’s Open House To Benefit
Famed Fort Worth
Motocross Announcer
Dallas and Corona, Calif., (April 14, 2004) – On Friday,
April 16th, the Women’s Motocross and Supercross Foundation
(WMXF) and Team Samsung RadioShack, a supercross team and
the stars of Spike TV’s “The Reality of Speed,”
will join forces to raise money for Lynn Nickerson, the influential
motocross announcer from Fort Worth, Texas.
Lynn Nickerson, a major proponent of motorsports in the Southwest,
recently was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus. An enormous
fixture in supercross long before it reached its current mainstream
status, Mr. Nickerson has been the voice of motorsports for
more than 30 years. Nickerson has called race action at events
including the World Mini Grand Prix in Las Vegas, the Ponca
City Nationals in Oklahoma, the GNC Final in Texas and various
NHRA events.
To generate excitement for the THQ World Supercross GP/THQ
AMA Supercross Series in Dallas and to raise funds for Mr.
Nickerson, Team Samsung RadioShack and Central Yamaha will
host an Open House, offering supercross fans the chance to
win exclusive prizes and an opportunity to meet their favorite
supercross riders, including members of Yamaha of Troy, Team
Yamaha, and Mach One Yamaha. Attendees also will have the
opportunity to appear alongside Team Samsung RadioShack in
Spike TV’s “The Reality of Speed,” the first
reality show to chronicle the lives of a supercross race team.
Several fundraisers benefiting Mr. Nickerson will be held
at Central Yamaha’s Open House:
§ Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung), sponsor
of Team Samsung RadioShack, will donate a portion of its proceeds
from the sale of its Vi660 wireless handset, available at
RadioShack, to the Lynn Nickerson Fund.
§ The WMXF will conduct a raffle, featuring one-of-a-kind
motorcycle jerseys, number plates and current racer memorabilia.
Proceeds will be distributed between the Lynn Nickerson Fund
and to support injured supercross riders in need of medical
attention.
§ Central Yamaha also will coordinate a charitable auction
in which the latest helmets, apparel and motorcycle equipment
will be auctioned to the highest bidder. All proceeds will
benefit the Lynn Nickerson Fund.
§ Clear Channel Entertainment’s Motorsports division,
promoter/producer of the THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross
Series, will auction two VIP passes to the April 17 supercross
race in Dallas, offering the highest bidder and a friend exclusive
passage to the announcer’s booth to watch the 125 cc
and 250 cc main events with celebrity announcer Irv Braun.
Additionally, Clear Channel Entertainment will offer two autographed
jerseys from factory Yamaha rider, David Vuillemen.
“Lynn Nickerson’s contributions to the world
of motorsports are countless, and Samsung is honored to rally
support for Lynn during this difficult time,” said Randy
Smith, vice president, Samsung Telecommunications America.
“Samsung and Team Samsung RadioShack also are thrilled
to bring exposure to the sport that means so much to Lynn
through our partnership with Central Yamaha, the WMXF and
the ‘Reality of Speed’ show.”
The Team Samsung RadioShack/Central Yamaha Open House, located
at 7000 Avenue K in Plano Texas, will be held on Friday, April
16th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
