Jacki Short

Not only is Jacki Short the wife of Team Honda’s
Andrew Short, she is also an accomplished racer, and holds
a leadership position in the WMFX. What’s the WMFX
you ask? It’s the Women’s Supercross and
Motocross Foundation, organized to help those in need in the
professional racing community. I recently had a chance
to catch up with the prettier half of motocross racing’s
nicest couple in the pro pits.
Jacki, lets start out with how the WMXF was formed?
Jim, the WMFX was initially formed by a small group of women in
2003 who saw a need to come together to support the professional
racing community. These women saw the potential to make great
things happen by uniting all women in the professional motocross/supercross
community!
What are the primary goals?
Our goal is to provide a lasting means of assistance to the Professional
Motocross community in their times of need.
Since the initial forming of the group, what has been
some of the main accomplishments?
Since 2003, the WMFX has raised over $160,000.00. We have
contributed to organizations or individuals from our racing community
who were in need (recently the WMFX donated over $40,000.00 to
the James Marshall and Ernesto Fonseca recovery efforts). Some
examples include paying hotel bills for family members while an
injured rider is in the hospital, paying transportation costs to
get an injured rider home, or getting a family member to an injured
rider, providing cash to help an injured rider with expenses after
an in jury, etc. We have also made regular contributions
to the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit. Every January during
one of the Anaheim races we have a luncheon where we invite all
the women associated with our sport together. It is meant
to help build relationships among the women in our community. Then
each September we have the Motobowl the week before Glen Helen;
it is a big fundraiser, and an excellent chance for fans to get
up close and personal with their favorite riders and enjoy an evening
of bowling and fun with all of the industry insiders.
Who’s all involved Jacki?
Well, Colleen Beattie and Kristen Oehlhof are Presidents, and
Antoinette Gress and I are Vice Presidents. Sarah Voss is
the Treasurer, Ang Cassella is Corresponding Secretary, and the
Recording Secretary and Membership Officer is Joanne Pryor.
What’s next for the WMXF?
Our third annual Motobowl is September 7th! Keep an eye
on our website in August for the opportunity to sign up and bowl
with your favorite rider or motocross celebrity!
Wrapping up Jacki, how can women join up?
